St. Pius X Catholic Student Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University

The Student Life Coordinator reports directly to the Chaplain and is responsible for helping direct and manage the annual student engagement activities of St. Pius X Catholic Student Center, as well as directing the student leadership board and their respective committees who execute these events. While the position may require more work at different times of the academic year, it is seen as a ten to twenty hour per week position during the school year. Primary responsibilities and relationships with other people in the institution are outlined below.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Develops an understanding of stewardship as a way of life and engages in the ongoing formation and education of how the concept of stewardship can be lived out by students.
  2. Responsible for engaging all students who sign up for a ministry role to immerse them in the life of the Student Center. This includes supervision and oversight of scheduling and training to guarantee that all interested parties have an opportunity to be trained and scheduled for a ministry, choir, or as a musician.
  3. Responsible for holding student leadership accountable in the execution of their events to properly steward the resources of St. Pius X Catholic Student Center for the direct benefit of its students and faculty. This includes attending weekly student leadership board meetings.
  4. Work with the Advisory Board to help oversee execution of Sunday Night meals and coordinate respective stewardship opportunity teams to manage the meals.
  5. Assist the chaplain in identifying pastoral needs, and finding creative ways to properly respond to them.
  6. Work with volunteers, chaplain, and staff, to organize Cor ad Cor retreat team and their duties as well as working with the Administrative Assistant to collect registration, payment, and necessary supplies.
  7. In conjunction with the chaplain, coordinate Restore Speakers, Religious Communities for visits and Busy Student Retreat.
  8. Be a liaison for communication between the student leadership board and staff, including but not limited to updating the events calendar that is reflected on the website in conjunction with the Administrative Assistant.
Qualifications:
  • A practicing and faithful Catholic in good standing, who loves the Church and sees work at Catholic campus ministry centers as an essential ministry.
  • Involvement in a campus ministry program as a student, or demonstration of social, organizational, and communication skills necessary for the position.
  • Enthusiasm and excellent people skills are essential. The successful candidate will have to work with students of all different walks of life and to motivate them to excellence.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and to lead and motivate others, especially volunteers.
  • Thoroughness in planning and implementing work, including goals, budget, timetables, and action steps to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively with the Chaplain, other staff members, students, campus representatives, and volunteers.
  • Affinity with, and passion for, the overall mission of the Catholic Campus Ministry at Pittsburg State University.
